Background
Oliver has over 20 years of experience in the TV, media and video production industry, beginning with his early work as a cinema projectionist in Germany. That role involved preparing and cutting 35mm film reels and operating traditional cinema projection systems — a hands-on introduction to the technical and practical foundations of film.
He later worked in television as a production assistant and location manager, tackling the day-to-day realities of TV broadcast production for a TV series in a format similar to Shortland Street. He gained experience across logistics, on-set coordination, and developed a solid understanding of the different departments involved, from wardrobe and makeup to camera, sound, lighting, and directing.
Since moving to New Zealand, Oliver has been working as a video producer and camera operator for the last 15 years. His experience covers a broad range of production styles. For example, he has worked on promotional videos for businesses and the tourism sector, documentary-style content, as well as filming many music and sports events. Over the past 10 years, he has also regularly worked as a freelance camera operator for TVNZ news and current affairs programmes such as 1News, Seven Sharp, and Fair Go.
He is comfortable working long days in the field and has experience filming in demanding environments, including working on commercial fishing vessels, managing camera operation with harnesses and safety gear, filming in helicopters and tackling the occasional hike through the bush or up a mountain to get the shot.
So if you ever need a camera operator or video support, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
